In 2017, my friend and fellow photographer Lauren Vied Allen and I launched The World in a pocket, an online project dedicated to better understanding the world through the lens of a dumpling. We believe that every culture has a pocket, or some sort of food-inside-of-food (dumplings, empanadas, enchiladas, spanakopita, lumpia, bao— you get the picture?) and our site serves as a platform for celebrating all of them. The World in a Pocket allows us to connect with home cooks, chefs and entrepreneurs in our community while providing a resource of recipes and stories for our readers.

Click here to view our website, and please get in touch if you know of a pocket food (or someone making them) that will also help expand our perspective of what it means to be an American.
